Staff Applications
[Note: Reader applications are currently OPEN!]
Are you interested in reading submissions, discovering new voices, and helping shape the inaugural issue of Afterbodies?
Afterbodies exclusively publishes high school and undergraduate writing that surfaces what often feels hidden or buried in society and within ourselves. We are currently looking for passionate Poetry Readers and Prose Readers, and welcome applicants of high school or undergraduate backgrounds. We are a certified 501(c)(3) literary nonprofit organization.
Roles
Readers are the first eyes on incoming submissions and act as our first line of defense! You will read, vote on, and discuss pieces, helping us discover work that pushes boundaries and resists systemic exclusion.
Editors review the Readers’ votes, make final selections, and work collaboratively with writers to refine and polish accepted pieces before publication. (Note: Editor positions will be selected from our Reader pool or by interview)
Staff Writers contribute original writing to Afterbodies, including blog features and conducted interviews. They will also assist in the editorial process by reviewing submissions and collaborating with genre teams.
Commitment & Timeline
Afterbodies publishes biannually with reading periods during the Summer and Winter to ensure our staff has plenty of time outside of the busy school year. Readers can expect to read roughly 10 to 15 submissions per week, though the time commitment fluctuates based on submission volume and reading speed. All positions are remote and volunteer-based.
We review applications as they come in, so we encourage applying early! We may reach out to you for a brief interview.
All positions are remote and volunteer-based. All final decisions will be sent out within three weeks of application.
